Johnny Holland: Club League Winner 2015!
Ciarán Handley rides quickest as Holland takes the title. Alicja tops the women’s league. Frank Pierce wins in the juniors.
The last round of the 2015 Joe McNally League saw the riders tackle the Nag’s Head in a hill climb test. It’s a deceiving course as the route starts flat followed by two quick digs which can catch a rider out if they are hit too hard and too fast. After that the hill itself starts and it gets gradually steeper as it goes on. It finishes with a nice fast corner into the final steep pitch where riders can find themselves suddenly in too big a gear. Get the gearing wrong and you can lose valuable seconds. Get it right and you can keep your momentum going to the finish.
On the night, Ciarán Handley put in a fine performance to finish ahead of Damian Donlon (2nd) and Michael Wall (3rd). Johnny came home in fourth spot giving him 12 points which coincidentally is the number of points lead he has at the end of the league.
It was a ding-dong battle all the way through the league as different riders went into top spot only to be overtaken the next week showing that not only are many riders evenly matched but also that it is vital to be consistently in the points.
So congratulations Johnny Holland! It was a hard fought league and you were kept honest by the challenges of the other riders.
Congratulations are due also to all the league organisers and helpers. This event most certainly does not happen on its own. A huge amount of work is put in. To start naming names risks leaving someone out, so simply… well done to everyone who helped in anyway.
Lastly, well done to all the riders… not everyone gets to win, but everyone puts in an effort… everyone suffers but some just suffer faster than others 😉
